Get Educated in Abdominoplasty
The Procedure: Abdominoplasty also known as the "tummy tuck" is an operation performed to treat extremely loose and flabby abdominal skin and muscle, usually following massive weight gain and weight loss. Abdominoplasty can be helpful when diet and exercise failed to correct severe muscle weakness which may occur after multiple pregnancies.
There are several types of abdominoplasty ranging from a minor removal of hanging skin to a major abdominal repair where the entire abdomen is tightened. It is designed to remove only as much excess skin and fatty tissue as is practical and safe. Abdominoplasty will enhance your body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter. Stretch marks when confined in the area of resection can be removed along with the excess skin.
The Incision Site: In tummy tuck operation, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision, which extends laterally toward the pelvic bones, depends largely on the amount of skin to be removed. Your plastic surgeon will try to keep the incision within your bathing suit lines; however, this may not always be possible. When there is loose skin above the navel, the surgeon may make a second incision around the navel to pull the skin downward then remove the excess skin. To tighten the abdominal wall, the surgeon brings loose underlying tissue and muscle together with sutures.
Get Ready For The Big Day (Before, During & After)
24 hours after Operation: Frequent calf exercise is recommended to prevent blood clots in the legs. Early ambulation is usually associated with increased fluid drainage. The day after surgery you will be encouraged to get out of bed for short walks to promote blood circulation.
On 5th Day / Discharge: You will be given a written instruction on when to take your antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and analgesic pills and you’ll be advised on the date of your follow-up visit. The wound will be dressed again on discharge day and drains are removed. However, when there is large amount of fluid still coming out from the drains, it might be left until the follow-up visit. Antibiotic ointment is applied on the sutured area after your shower. You will be ask to avoid swimming, only light exercise and should keep on using the abdominal binder for at least 3 weeks to maintain and achieve the desired body shape. The pain on the first 1-2 weeks varies; however, it can be controlled by the prescribed medications.
7 days After: Your follow-up visit. All sutures will be removed 7-10 days post-operatively. You are expected to stay in Phuket for at least 10 – 14 days.
2 weeks After: Sexual activity should be avoided for a minimum of two weeks or more. Straining, bending and Lifting must be avoided since these activities might cause increased swelling or even bleeding. You will be encouraged to sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees.
4 weeks After: Swelling and bruising will disappear over a period of weeks. However, it may be months before all swelling subsides and you see the final result of your abdominoplasty. You may also notice some numbness over portions of the abdominal area and this may persist for several months incisions will initially be red or pink in color. They will remain this way for many months following surgery then finally begin to fade.
The Tummy Tuck Surgery Package : THB
Full payment of the operating expenses must be paid in full before the operation. This package is applicable for elective, uncomplicated patients only.
The Long Term Outcome of Tummy Tuck
It is highly recommended for patients to stay in Phuket or nearby places for at least 10-14 days because tummy tuck surgery is an aesthetic reconstructive procedure rather than purely aesthetics. Since this is a complex operation requiring highly technical skills which have variable presentations in each patient with high chances of developing early post-operative complications, it would be beneficial when our surgeon could closely follow-up and monitor your recovery while you’re still in Phuket. There are no promises for the results as the outcome varies in each individual patient and it will take many months to see the result. In the event that the patient requires additional operations, there will be no doctor’s fee; however, the patient must pay for the operating room charges, anesthesia and hospital fee.
Like any surgical procedure, tummy tuck is also associated with certain number of risks and complications despite maximum care. Possible complications include bleeding, infection, wound separation and delayed healing. Our Team takes every precaution possible to prevent and minimize the risks of surgery. However, much of the responsibility for risk avoidance rests with you as well.
